The Sacrament of Baptism
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them
to observe all that I have commanded you."
(Mt 28:19-20) |
Parents seeking the Sacrament of Baptism for their children must attend a Baptismal Preparation session held the 2nd Monday of the month at 7 p.m. Please call the Rectory at 315-782-2468 to schedule attending a session or if you have any other questions about preparing for the sacrament.
Most children born into a Catholic family are baptized as
infants. Arrangements should be made as soon as possible after birth.
Baptism is the beginning of a child’s journey of faith. Through
the teaching example of parents and godparents, a child will grow to
become a
follower of Christ and an active member of the church.

"The Lord himself affirms that Baptism is necessary for salvation.60 He also commands his disciples to proclaim the Gospel to all nations and to baptize them.61
Baptism is necessary for salvation for those to whom the Gospel has
been proclaimed and who have had the possibility of asking for this
sacrament.62
The Church does not know of any means other than Baptism that assures
entry into eternal beatitude; this is why she takes care not to neglect
the mission she has received from the Lord to see that all who can be
baptized are "reborn of water and the Spirit." God has bound salvation to the sacrament of Baptism, but he himself is not bound by his sacraments." The Catholic Catechism
